Our standards demand that the client is happy from the moment they request a consultation, until six months after the build is complete

We first came across Richard’s work in our local suburb and we inspected a few of his previous projects. Once we met with him face-to-face, we could tell right away he felt a genuine desire to satisfy his clients. From our very first meeting, Richard made practical and insightful suggestions to bring our architect’s vision to life. Richard worked on-site every day, and is a very hard worker.
Richard was flexible and open to working with all of our ideas and the products we wanted to include. Throughout the 7-month build, Richard and his team were always courteous and respectful of the fact we were living on-site at the same time, and went out of their way to make sure we were all able to co-exist together well.
The quality of work Richard has produced has changed our lives, the lifestyle we enjoy now every single day makes us so happy. We would not hesitate to recommend Richard and his team to anyone looking for a great renovation outcome.

We watched him build the house across the road and saw how he well he built
it and knew we had found a great builder. Our renovation was quite extensive and involved. Richard was a pleasure to work with and at no time was there a disagreement. The whole build was just over 10 months. It was on time and under budget. The finishes are first class. The quality of the build is outstanding. Many people comment on how quick the renovation was and how good it looks.

We could not be happier with the outcome and the suggestions made by Richard
along the way as well as his ability to avert potential disasters. We have recommended him to many friends who are about to embark on a renovation, be it big or small. Richard and his whole team get on well and the building site was a pleasure to visit during those 10 months.

Why we chose Richard and Lancaster Building to renovate our house.

Before meeting Richard, my wife and I had renovated two houses and knew all the pitfalls associated with builders and renovating. For our third and “final” house we had an architect draw up plans, as we bought a rundown bungalow in Haberfield and needed a full knock down, so we had to jump through hoops because of the heritage listing on the suburb. Four builders quoted, (including Richard) and they all came with some sort of recommendation from either friends or people we knew. We also looked at houses that each builder had done and spoke to the owners.

Having experience from doing this a couple of times before, the builder had to tick a lot of boxes to get the job. First and foremost, they had to be honest! There’s nothing worse than the builder walking towards you during the renovation, looking grim and shacking his head before saying a word and the next thing that comes out of his mouth is, how much it’s going more the build is going to cost. The second thing for us was, do you trust them? This person is going to be in charge of probably the most expensive thing you’ll ever do in your life, so do you believe they can do what they say they’re going to? Third thing was, do they have the right team of tradesmen that will do the job properly and not take short cuts and do you think they can deliver on the quoted price with no hidden agendas?

This testimonial is to let you know that Richard and his team bent over backwards for us through the whole building journey and ticked all the boxes. If there was a problem that could’ve occurred during the 9 months of building…it happened! We hit asbestos, the boundary wasn’t right, there was a load of sandstone to excavate, dampness…the lot! Not once did Richard look worried about any problem that popped up and it was always ”don’t worry, everything will be all right” and it was. Sometimes, I even felt embarrassed about questioning things that didn’t look right because he already knew about what I was questioning and had it sorted.

We even made major changes to the plans because as we could see certain parts of the house weren’t going to work. This wasn’t a problem for Richard and he made excellent suggestions that improved on the functionality and look of the house. Most builders will do whatever is cheapest and easiest for them because it’s an “add on”. I had this in mind when we needed the plans changed so suggested things that were easiest and cheapest to save money but what Richard did was so much better and we were only charged the cost, not the plus, plus that other builders charge.

As it was a renovation of an old federation house, there was always going to be a settling in period and after 3 years of living here, Richard has always come back to resolve any small issues with no hesitation.

If you want a stress free build on your next home, I would highly recommend Richard and all the tradesmen from Lancaster Building to do the work and thank them for the beautiful home they built for my family.
